Ward 19 - General Medicine Diabetes
Ward 19 is a 28/30 bedded ward caring for male and female patients with a vast array of medical conditions.
We have 1 consultant Orthopaedic geriatrician, Dr Henry Owles, and Consultant Dr Shanthi Chandran who is our endocrinologist, for our Diabetic patients. Both perform board rounds and ward rounds every day, along with their junior doctors. We have 6 Band 6’s to ensure we have a senior nurse on every shift for support and guidance. The diverse medical conditions we care for include Haematology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Respiratory, Gastro, Diabetes, oncology, renal, frailty, mental health and strokes, either as an independent issue or co-existing with other conditions.
The ward opened to medicine in July 2017 and has undergone a fabulous transition to ensure it meets the needs of our patients. Our team are enthusiastic, warm and welcoming, and work with the team dynamic ethos.
We encourage and promote independence to prevent patients becoming hospitalised, and our team of Physiotherapists and occupational therapists, and Discharge officers, support in mobility and assessments needed for discharges.
If you want to expand your knowledge and skills on multiple medical conditions and be part of a fantastic team, ward 19 is the ward for you.
